Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a small country located in Central America, bordered by Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the southeast. Costa Rica represents only 0.1% or the world’s land mass, however its national parks, rainforests, cloud forests, beaches and oceans are home to 5% of the world’s biodiversity. Costa Rica has a population of approximately 5 million of which a third of the entire population lives within the metropolitan area and San Jose, its capital. San Jose is one of the safest cities in all of Latin America.

Costa Rica’s rich historical and cultural heritage may be experienced at the various museums such as the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, the Museum of Costa Rican Art, the Jade Museum, the National Museum, the Children’s Museum and many cathedrals that preserve a vast collection of religious Spanish colonial art.

Costa Ricans, also named “Ticos” are of mixed ethnicities, coming from various nationalities from all over the world; Europe, Africa, Asia, Americas, Middle East.  It is considered one of the happiest countries in the world as well as a country where one of its peninsula’s is home to people with highest rates of longevity. Costa Rica abolished its army in 1948 and since then has invested nearly 30% of its national budget in primary and secondary education. The literacy rate is 95%, and the country boasts more teachers than policemen.

You can come to Costa Rica all year round. We are far away from the Hurricane Belt and are never affected by this climatic phenomenon. Costa Rica has an eternal spring weather with only two seasons, the green and the gold season.  The green season usually starts in May and lasts through late November, this is the time of the year when sun shines in the mornings and we experience short showers in the afternoons. While the gold season is from early December until the end of April. Temperatures vary according to elevation.  The average temperatures in the Central Valley are between 20 degrees and 25 degrees Celsius. Due to our proximity to the Equator, we do not observe day lite saving, the sun rises every day at 5:30 am and you can expect sunset by 5:45 pm all year!

All these attributes have made Costa Rica the best destination for adventure tourism and ecotourism.

Costa Rica is a lot more than a beach destiantion.

The Central Valley Destination

In a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains, four active volcanoes and manicured coffee plantations, lays the city of San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. San Jose and its outskirts is home to a third of the country’s population. Though few people live in the city centre, it is the most important working area of the country, which brings in more than a million people daily. Today San José is a modern city with bustling commerce, brisk expressions of art and architecture, and spurred by the country’s improved tourism industry; it is a significant destination and a great stopover for foreign visitors.

The Guanacaste Destination

Known for its beautiful beaches along the North Pacific coast of Costa Rica, is the province of Guanacaste. Its capital, Liberia, the Santa Rosa National Park, the Peninsula of Papagayo, its volcanoes, warm weather, cowboy origins & lifestyle and hospitable people are Guanacaste’s main attractions.

The Central Pacific Destination

Along a narrow strip of coastal land lined with stunning mountains and reaching the Pacific coast are the towns of Puntarenas, Caldera, Jaco, Parrita, Quepos, and Manuel Antonio to name a few.

The Arenal Destination

Rain Forest at its best. This area of the country is perfect to combine with the beach and get to know to drastically different areas. Arenal is known for its volcanic and thermal activity.

The Monteverde Cloud Forest Destination

The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve offers well developed and user-friendly trails to access some of the most beautiful cloud forests. Often shrouded in cloud blown in from the Atlantic Ocean, Monteverde forests are laden with epiphytic growth such as mosses, lichens, ferns, bromeliads and orchids, even small trees.

DMC Information

Costa Rica DMC was founded in 2003 by Mauricio Arevalo and Iren Montealegre, both Costa Rican, and passionate for the beauty and diversity of our country and always looking for the best ways of experiencing this unique eco destination.

Mauricio started in the tourism world very young at the age of 20, working as a tour guide for shore excursion groups when he was a Hotel Management student, later was hired to supervise tour operations. In 1993 he designed and operated his first incentive group for Chrysler and completely fell in love with the corporate groups and started the first DMC company with his former employer. Many years of effort, learnings, discoveries and developing new ideas in Costa Rica went by and finally in 2003 Mao and Irene took a leap of faith and opened Costa Rica DMC Inc.
